Monday Memo // 5

Listening:

One Part Podcast.

"A conversation with some of the most interesting and inspiring minds in wellness, music, food, fashion, and design."

I found this podcast about six months ago and I've been going through the archives, loving each and every episode. From the long profiles (about 45 minutes to an hour) to the shorter and often sillier "Things That Freaked My Week" micro episodes (about 20 minutes long), all of it is inspiring and wonderful.

Some of my top favorite episodes: Laura Miller of Raw. Vegan. Not Gross., Ashlae Warner of Oh, Ladycakes, Beth Kirby of Local Milk

The host, Jessica Murnane, is working on her first cookbook so the podcasting schedule is less frequent and predictable. But! if you haven't listened, now is the time to catch up on so many great stories from superb people.

Also look around Jessica's website. It is fabulous.

Reading:

I'm still on all the previous books ("The Goldfinch" and "Writer's Market"). I told you I would be here for a long time.

But to provide something new, I really love "Girls at Library" or GAL. It's an online magazine dedicated to avid reading females. Perfect! Lovely interviews and images.

Craving:

All the beverages.

It is roughly 90 degrees on a daily basis, so I am always in need of a cold beverage. I have an issue of spending all my money at the variety of grocery stores in town, so pair the two and my fridge is stocked with a plethora of drinks. I am also constantly trying to find healthy, energizing, fun bevs to keep my going during my weird work hours (restaurant life---working while normal people are dining).

This snap from my Instagram illustrates the craving perfectly. (P.s. I got that awesome shelf at Target.)

Wearing:

A week ago I walked to a thrift store near my house. I found an extra-small, incredibly billowy, loose black Free People Dress. Less than $4 and so perfect for being kind of chic in the heat. I've been wearing it with fun, bright Victoria's Secret sports bras at least every other day. All items of the racerback variety.

Watching:

"Inside Amy Schumer."

I've always watched and appreciated this show. The latest season with bits relating to "Sex and the City" and "Game of Thrones" have been great.

Wanting:

I keep seeing high-neck bikini tops and one-piece bathing suits and want one! I am headed to the beach this week and though I have no shortage of bathing options, I really want a new piece. Options, it is all about options.

Listening:

I can listen to "Back, Baby" by Jessica Pratt on repeat.

I love the words, simplicity and sweetness.

Sometimes I pray for the rain.

Reading:

Writer's Market 2016. Doing my research with this an annual resource book for writers who wish to sell their work. The publication is released by Writer's Digest Books every year.

My favorite publications I have come across: "Sheep! Magazine" and "Spudman." Mostly self-explanatory. (image via seriouseats.com)

Craving:

Ben & Jerry's new non-dairy ice cream. I've tried the Chocolate Fudge Brownie and P.B. & Cookies. Made with almond milk, they are both quite satisfying. They maintain those great B&J chunks/texture, but feel a bit less heavy. I think my body is cooperating less with lactose as I get older, so it is a pleasant discovery. And now consistent craving.

I'm sure by the end of the summer I will have tried them all. (image via brostick.com)

Wearing:

Dresses that are essentially long, short-sleeved shirts. Most popular color schemes and patterns: blue-purple-turquoise plaid, heather grey, wacky tropical/jersey combo.

Watching:

"The Sopranos." This is one of those holy television programs I have never seen. As a die-hard "The Wire" and "Six Feet Under" lover it is surprising this has never been viewed. So I am beginning the saga. Instantly, I can tell this is going to be a fabulous, dramatic undertaking.

Wanting:

I recently started painting my fingernails after a decade-long hiatus. I need some new colors. I love having that fresh, polished look. I think I bright poppy coral or milky coffee color would be nice. I wish I had nabbed the Cupcakes and Cashmere nail polish collection at Sephora when it debuted in February.

Monday Memo // 3

Listening:

Alice Boman's "Waiting."

On Saturday night I arrived home and my boyfriend was watching Season 2 of Transparent (I finished it hours after it came out). Still, I joined him for the last three episodes and laughed and cried, of course. The last song in the final episode gave me chills. So wonderful. This whole soundtrack is brilliant, too.

Reading:

Still loving "The Goldfinch." I might be here for a bit, as it is roughly 800 pages.

Craving:

Cold brew coffee. I've been trying out new brands every time I hit up the grocery store. Trader Joes' was a little weak. I really like the CoolBrew Mocha variety. It lasts awhile and has a fun container, perfect for measuring your ounces. Got a Stumptown bottle in my fridge ready for the test.

Black and white stripes. Long-sleeved, short-sleeved, sweatered; I am regularly in the mood for all the stripes.

Watching:

"Grace and Frankie." My love of grandparents must be part of this instant binge-watching session. It isn't perfect, but it makes me laugh and I sometimes that is all I need/want.

Wanting:

I am falling for the off-the-shoulder trend, but I don't know that I would feel entirely comfortable in it. So far nothing I have tried on has me convinced. Maybe for the better?

Monday Memo // 2

Listening:

Sturgill Simpson's Nirvana cover "In Bloom." A lotta bit country, a little bit rock and roll. Catchy.

Reading:

I heard about it for years and it was always on the waitlist at my library---alas! I finally got my hands on Donna Tartt's "The Goldfinch." So far I am believing the hype. It is REALLY GOOD.

Craving:

Cold, sweet treats. It is already a million degrees in Florida and I crave ice cream, smoothies, milkshakes, etc. ALL THE TIME. It does not help that the air conditioning in my car is broken. Hopefully I can steer myself in the direction of healthy smoothies and cold fruit, because the run to the boutique ice cream shop last night should not be a consistent habit. I am already salivating at the memory of one scoop banana cookie and one scoop chocolate walnut brownie.

Wearing:

Tropical-patterned bottoms and basic tops. Think: banana leaf print culottes + grey tee or black and floral shorts + black tee.

Watching:

Slideshows of this year's Met Gala. I look forward to it every year. The gowns and stylings. I live for red carpet fashion slideshows.

Wanting:

Also still on the hunt for perfect old Levi's, but also wanting to find some new color/styling scheme and decor for my bedroom.
